What is Quitline?

Quitline supports people on their journey to quit vaping, smoking, or both. The service provides guidance, information, and ongoing support tailored to each person's needs.

Is Quitline free?

Yes. Quitline is a free service for all Queenslanders. There are no costs involved, and the team is there to help in whatever way is most useful to you.

Is the service private?

Yes. Quitline is a confidential service. Information you share is not disclosed to other people, and your personal information remains private. You have control over how your information is used and managed.

Can I speak to the same counsellor each time?

Usually, you will speak with different counsellors. Each counsellor may offer different perspectives and support, and all counsellors can access notes from previous calls to ensure continuity of care.

In some cases, particularly for young people who have developed a strong connection with a counsellor, it may be possible to request the same counsellor for future sessions.

Do I need to make a commitment or attend regular sessions?

No. Quitline works flexibly around your needs. Some people only need to speak with a counsellor once, while others find ongoing support calls helpful. The level of support is entirely up to you.

Can I speak to Quitline in another language?

Yes. When requesting a call, you can nominate your preferred language and an interpreter can be arranged.

Quitline also has counsellors who speak other languages and can provide support directly. Even if your English is limited, or if you are seeking help for a family member or friend who does not speak English, support is available.

Can I involve a parent, caregiver, or support person?

Yes. You are welcome to have a parent, caregiver, teacher, support worker, or another trusted person involved in your call if that makes you feel more comfortable.

The only requirement is that you provide permission for Quitline to speak with them.

Do I have to be actively trying to quit smoking or vaping before I call?

No. You do not need to be ready to quit.

You can contact Quitline simply to ask questions about smoking, vaping, or quitting. The service will meet you where you are and provide information and support based on your current situation.

If you are ready to quit, Quitline can help you create a plan and provide ongoing support throughout the process.

Can you help me quit both smoking and vaping?

Yes. Quitline counsellors are trained to support people who want to quit smoking, vaping, or both.

Many people begin vaping as a way to stop smoking and later find themselves dependent on both. Quitline can work with you to develop a personalised plan that aligns with your goals.

I mix tobacco with cannabis. Can you still help me?

Yes. Quitline can support people who mix tobacco with cannabis.

Whether your goal is to stop using tobacco in your mix or to reduce or quit both substances, counsellors can work with you to create an approach that suits your needs.

If you would like support specifically related to cannabis use, Quitline can also connect you with specialist services. The choice is always yours, and support can be tailored to your goals.
